Should MA Shelter Some of the Children Who Have Flooded US Border?

Gov. Deval Patrick is mulling a request from President Barack Obama for the commonwealth to shelter some of the unaccompanied children that have flooded over the country’s southern border.

If Patrick agrees to the request, the children would be housed in secure facilities.

Patrick called the issue at the border a “humanitarian crisis.” Massachusetts should do what it can to help, he said, but added that the commonwealth needs to understand the “scope” of the assistance and what the commonwealth can actually provide.

More than 52,000 children have been caught crossing into the country since October and Obama has called it an “urgent humanitarian situation.”

What do you think? Should Massachusetts agree to take in some of the unoccupied children that have come across the US border? Let us know in the comments section

Remember 'all Democrats' ARE Obama. All Democrats 'MUST' 'only' vote His way in order to get any money or favors from him. He's got them 'stiff' and begging. With him in the White house , no democrat is an 'individual any more. The republicans 'must' take the senate or say Goodbye to America as you know it.

@Ken In order to protest IRS scandals, you would need to HAVE IRS scandals.

@Paula The budget deficit is the lowest it has been in 6 years and $17T is no big deal given that we're in control of our own currency. I suggest you read about modern monetary theory to see that's true. Japan has a debt equivalent to over 200% of their GDP. much higher as a percentage than ours (roughly 100%), and no one expects them to default on their debt. It's in the interest of the fear mongers like Pete Peterson to hype our deficit to get us to agree to cut programs like Medicare and Social Security, or to privatize them so they can skim 1-2% off the top like they do with 401Ks. And no, we don't need to make those cuts and neither do we need to worry about the debt. I guess if chasing brown people around is your answer to the immigration problem, which has been the same answer for 30 years, then it's true what they say about insanity. It's trying the same thing and expecting a different result.
