Selectmen Want To Pursue Phillips Park Improvements

By pursue, Chairman Matt Strauss means the board has asked Town Administrator Andrew Maylor to figure how much the work would cost.

“The cost of the carpet (artificial surface) is the most important,” the chairman said.

The project would be a capital project, meaning funds would need public support.

More often than not a capital project is approved by going through the capital committee and then being approved by Town Meeting, said the town administrator, referring to capital projects in general.

Some of the Phillips Park work is overdue and needed one way or the other, Strauss said.

The stands, parking area and press box are in “disgraceful” condition, he said.

The board has also asked the administrator to assemble a timeline for the project.

Board members talked about the idea at their strategic planning session last week.

They took no vote but the members appeared to strike an informal consensus.

“I think it is something we are going to pursue,” the chairman said.
