Selectmen Recommend Regionalization Item

The board is scheduled to sign and approve the final Town Meeting warrant tonight at Town Hall.

Selectmen voted 4-1 at their meeting last Wednesday to recommend approval of a citizens petition that would form a town regionalization committee.

Former Finance Committee Chairman Michael McClung brought forth the petition.

The committee would "research and evaluate regionalization opportunities, including shared services, shared departments, disincorporation, or annexation by neighboring municipalities ... ."

It would have seven members: four residents and representatives from the Board of Selectmen, School Committee and Finance Committee.

Approval at Town Meeting would authorize the study and evaluation of regionalization measures, not implement them.
