The delay, backed by a town by-law, prevents the developers from tearing down the three Cap'n Jack buildings until Aug. 1, unless an agreement is struck between the developers and the commission.

Developers Bruce Paradise and Barry Turkanis have bought the Cap'n Jack's Inn property for $3.5 million.

In other board business, at 7 pm, selectmen have scheduled an executive session: to investigate charges or criminal misconduct or to discuss the filing of criminal complaints.

Additionally, board members are scheduled to meet and interview the final candidate of three finalists for the open town administrator position.

They are slated to meet Thomas Younger of Belmont, the acting town administrator in Ipswich, at 7:15 pm.
