Open space is a significant element here in Swampscott and is a defining feature of the town’s character and quality of life — as was found through the Planning Board’s community survey earlier this year.

The last plan was approved in 1983 — it’s time for a new plan to provide guidance for the coming years.

Along with providing a means for protecting the “green infrastructure” of the community, the community will be supplying an outline of priorities to be considered for capital improvements. A new plan will also make Swampscott eligible for a number of open space and park grants to aid in the maintenance and creation of these spaces.

Volunteers from town are needed to take part in the committee.

All interested parties should submit a letter of interest to the Board of Selectmen or use the online “Volunteer Applications” form on the Town website
