Phillips Beach Parking Headed to Traffic Study Committee

Selectmen announced on Wednesday that the traffic panel will take up the controversial topic of Phillips Beach parking when the members meet later this month.

The lone agenda item for the Traffic Study Committee's July 31, meeting lists three words: Phillips Beach Parking.

But expect many more words to emerge when the controversial topic opens for discussion at the Swampscott Senior Center. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. on the last day in July, a Wednesday.

Among topics to be discussed will be whether residential streets near the popular sandy beach will be opened for parking.

Earlier, the chairman of the Board of Selectmen asked the study committee to consider the whole situation including changes to the existing parking restrictions on Ocean Avenue, Longley Avenue, Bradlee Avenue, Brown Road and Cutting Road.

In the end the traffic study group will bring a recommendation to selectmen.
