Pension Reform Talks Before Selectmen Wednesday

The board is also scheduled to make two permanent appointments to fire department officers.

In the wake of a home rule petition's defeat at Town Meeting in May, selectmen will talk pension reform Wednesday.
Selectman Barry Greenfield sought the talks.
Town Administrator Tom Younger said they are to be general and take stock of what other pension reform actions might be possible.
Selectman Greenfield was also a leading proponent of the rejected Home Rule item.
It would have asked legislators to give Swampscott the option to offer alternative retirement and health insurance benefits for new town employees in collective bargaining with unions.
Also at Wednesday's meeting selectmen are slated to appoint Acting Fire Captain Mark Ryan to permanent fire captain; and appoint Acting Fire Lieutenant Edward Seligman to permanent fire lieutenant.
The board is also scheduled to vote on final approval of the Atlantic Crossing Development at the former Temple Israel.
The meeting starts at 7 at Town Hall.
