Half of Grown Ups 2 Movie Expected to be Set in Swampscott

The movie script is being rewritten and calls for less filming at the Swampscott Middle School but more filming elsewhere in town.

A location manager for Columbia Pictures says about half of the Adam Sandler movie Grown Ups 2 is planned to be filmed in Swampscott and about half in Marblehead.

The manager, Charles Harrington, who spoke to the Swampscott School Committee Wednesday, also urged interested Swampscott residents to attend for extras being held this weekend in Boston.

There are many extras being used in the film, he said. Filming will take place for much of the summer.

He said in an interview that movie producers want Grown Ups 2 to be an exciting experience for people in town and having a role as an extra would be a great way to be part of the experience.

The location manager told School Committee members that there will not be as much filming as expected at the .

Instead of four days the filming at the school has been trimmed to a single day, he said.

A history classroom will be transformed to a French class.

The shoot will take place on June 4 in the school's Grade 5 wing.

As it happens, the school's sixth graders will be on a field trip that day and the fifth graders will be moved to the school's sixth grade wing to minimize any disruptions to education, Superintendent Lynne Celli said.

The district will receive $40,000 for providing the school setting for the sequel to the Grown Ups movie, set in a fictional New England town and revolving around the reunion of childhood friends.

In addition, the movie will donate a $10,000 gift on behalf of the Class of 2012.

This is because there will be a movie presence — though not filming – at Phillips Park during high school graduation.

The presence will be a set inside a big white tent at the far end of the park on the practice football field and parking lot.

Harrington is scheduled to sign the agreement with the Swampscott School District today, for filming at the middle school.

Meanwhile, movie representatives and the town could have an agreement in place for the filming at Phillips Park as soon as Thursday.

The script is being rewritten and the changes will influence the movie sets.

A swimming pool is expected to be constructed at , though no tennis courts, in keeping with changes to the script.

The pool will be fenced and include police details as well as 24-hour security, Harrington said..

School Committe Vice Chairman Jaren Landen wanted to be sure the pool was secured in case any seniors try to take a post graduation plunge into the movie waters.

The location manager said there will be six or seven homes in Swampscott that serve as set locations.

This means that location scouts are looking at many more than the six or seven houses in order to give the director plenty of option to choose among.

Stars in Grown Ups 2 include Sandler, David Spade, Taylor Lautner, Salma Hayek, Chris Rock, Kevin James, Maya Rudolph and Rob Schneider, according to IMDb.

Movie representatives have been fanning out around town scouting locations and talking to people as well as meeting with town officials as they prepare for the movie filming.
