President Barack Obama's "Raise the Wage" campaign will touch down in Connecticut this week.

Obama will speak at Central Connecticut State University on Wednesday, March 5. The visit is one of many the president is making to garner support for increasing the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour.

Obama will be joined at the New Britain campus by Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, Massachusetts Gov. Deval L. Patrick, Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee, and Vermont Gov. Peter E. Shumlin.

Malloy, a Democrat who fell in lockstep with the president andcalled for an increase in the state's minimum wage to $10.10after Obama unveiled the proposal in his State of the Union speech, was at the nation's capitol last week to meet with other governors and Obama. There, Malloy exchanged verbal fisticuffs with Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, after the Republican criticized Obama's push to increase the minimum wage.

“There is a debate happening across our country on how to tackle the growing income inequality that is detrimental to our middle class families and to our economy," Malloy said. "Part of tackling that critically important challenge is making sure that we recognize that a decent wage is good for workers and good for business.”

“For too long," Malloy continued, "the minimum wage has not kept up with the cost of living."

Malloy announced last week via Twitter that Obama was coming to the state, but he held off on disclosing any details. Confirmation of the president's visit, as well as the venue, were confirmed Saturday.

CCSU also announced the news to the campus community Saturday evening.

"We are honored to announce that on Wednesday, March 5, President Barack Obama will give a speech at the University. An email to the campus community on Monday will provide details about the event, about obtaining tickets to it, and related information."

Malloy said, “I am happy to welcome President Obama and my New England colleagues to Connecticut for the next phase of this incredibly important debate. Working together, we can and will make sure that people who work 40 hours a week don’t live in poverty.”

According to Malloy, studies have shown that the workers who would benefit from a minimum wage increase brought home 46 percent of their household’s total wage and salary income in 2011.

"When workers earn more money, businesses will have more customers," he said. "This modest boost will help those earning the least to make ends meet.”

Tyler: Sort of. At the expense of introducing a non sequitur (a debate no-no) I will attempt to explain why 3 dots are pertinent. Slavery is one of those issues where there are 3 main variables to solve for, when discussing it: What the FF wrote, the Civil War and subsequent Amendments, and the Civil Rights Era and its subsequent accomplishments. All 3 are important and related to the other. You dismissing everything that happened before FDR is akin to someone discounting 200 years of slavery since the courts have ruled it illegal. So there's my analogy (dangerous I know), now back to what we were discussing............" Yes", the courts have ruled that the govt. may tax via income tax and spend on welfare and a myriad of other programs under "general welfare." Me denying that would be like me denying the moon. Of course it's legal, but not every law is just, and this whole thing started because you disagreed that Libertarians were not working toward the goal of eliminating FDR's/Johnson's Great Society programs by eliminating the income tax. We are actively attempting to eliminate the income tax: http://www.lp.org/files/lp_news/2014-1_LP_News.pdf .............. In order to do this, one has to understand why the income tax was needed, what was the course of our history since it was enacted, and is that a course we as Americans want, the Fed, the IRS, all of it, needs to be understood and that is where all of these dots get connected..........I realize that most of the time you deal with people who want welfare programs to be defunded because they hate immigrants, or poor people, or minorities, etc. so I understand your knee jerk reaction when someone calls for their defunding, but there is an intellectual argument to made for the elimination of the income tax, the IRS and the Fed that deals with the millions of war dead, the "Imperialization" of a republic, the waste, the fraud, the coercion-------and all of it directly related to the 16th Amendment and it's effect on the Constitution and that era, as well as FDR/JOhnson and the progressive ideology.

Ah! You have a libertarian platform to espouse. How else could one turn an article discussion about " Raising the Wage" into a repeal effort for the Sixteenth(16th) Amendment.

LB Bork exposes layers and layers of deception that has made a mockery of the Declaration of Independence, destroyed individual freedom and turned the united states of America into a penal colony. The deception has been sitting their right before our eyes, but LB Bork's research and book, "The Red Amendment" exposes it right down to the very core. Not my Government. The People have forfeited their Rights when they Unknowingly and Fraudulently became 14th Amendment Citizens to this Illegitimate system of government, creating a dual citizenship and the People becoming "subjected" (subjects) to Congress by means of the 14th Amendment. (slaves of Congress)   The People have surrendered their Rights within the "Bill of Right" to this rogue system of Government, Law and Political Affiliation which has changed the Peoples "Nationality" from Our Organic Constitution. The People No Longer have their Inalienable Rights but Civil Rights given to them by a Illegitimate 14th Amendment Government   In a true sense, it is Genocide, done so fraudulently by making “The People” consent by participation in this Illegitimate system. That is the way this illegitimate government gains its legitimacy.   It’s a illegitimate government of consent. It is NOT our organic system of government.   LETS  START  WITH  THE  TRUTH and Begin Where the Problem Started and that's with the Silent Coupe De Tat of Our Organic System of Law, Nationality, and Political Affiliation.   Unbeknownst to “The People”, they have had the choice of Citizenship, done so by carrying the quasi Dual Citizenship.   http://www.pacinlaw.org

Private Law, not of the Constitution. Following the same route as the Roman Empire before its collapse.
