I-93 South Through Boston Closed Tonight

The closure starts late Thursday and continues through the overnight hours.

Starting tonight, Thursday, Dec. 26, and lasting overnight into Friday, Dec. 27, preparations for the closure of the Callahan Tunnel require the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to conduct a complete closure of Interstate 93 Southbound through Boston from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

During the closure crews will install signage to support the Callahan closure detours. To learn more about the closure of the Callahan, which begins at 11 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, visit the project webpage: www.mass.gov/massdot/callahantunnelrehab

I-93 SOUTHBOUND traffic will be detoured off the highway at Exit 28 in Somerville and onto surface streets and allowed to re-enter I-93 Southbound at the Haymarket on-ramp at the intersection of New Chardon Street and Surface Road, located HERE.

Traffic destined for Logan Airport and East Boston will follow the posted detour via I-93 Southbound Exit 18 and the Ted Williams Tunnel.
