Humphrey Street Paving Starts Mid-Month

The town selected a Melrose paving company for the work.

Swampscott's  director said on Friday that Humphrey Street paving is scheduled to start in one week, on Aug. 13.

This should be welcome news to many residents who have been eager for new asphalt on Humphrey.

This work is part of the town's regular road paving schedule and unrelated to the recent re-work of temporary trench paving by National Grid on the other end of Humphrey.

As far as the upcoming project goes, it is unclear yet at which end the Melrose paving contractor will start .

The town selected the most competive bidder for the summer and fall paving contract, DR Paving of Melrose.

DR bid $840,000 on the estimated $950,000 paving package.

Under the contract the Melrose company will have 90 days to complete the work.

Patch will post the complete paving schedule when the information is available later this month.

Looking ahead, Town Administrator Tom Younger plans to develop a five-year paving plan that will identify roads scheduled for work, their length, the type of work to be done and the estimated cost.
