I checked Walkscore and Swampscott is already more walkable than Marblehead. Only a few people who live close to the center of Marblehead can walk downtown. The vast majority of trips out of the house in either town are by car. http://www.walkscore.com/score/swampscott-ma http://www.walkscore.com/MA/Marblehead

the town needs to now focus on taking care of the decaying infrastructure--most streets and sidewalks are in shambles-where on earth would we allow the building of mix-use facilities? where is this space? the little children's play area on humphrey street near the field house is an utter embarrassment-just remove it if the town has no desire to update it - it's a lawsuit waiting to happen - if you want a more walk-friendly town, start by doing the basics - fix the darn streets and sidewalks so people can walk without the risk of injury, or worse

Let's first build the rail trail in Swampscott before investing more money on Humprey Street. In case you haven't noticed most people only get a glimpse of the water from the street with all the condo's and homes built on the Swampscott waterfront.
