Flooding on Selectmen's Agenda Tonight

Residents from Swampscott Avenue and Hawthorne Brook will talk to selectmen about flooding in their neighborhoods when the board meets tonight at 7:15 at Town Hall.

David and Julia Arsenault of Swampscott Avenue and representatives of the Hawthorne Brook Neighborhood Group are scheduled to talk to selectmen tonight about flooding.

The Arsenaults say they want to talk about the flooding of homes and businesses on the lower portion of Paradise Road.

Among their questions: what are the town's short-term and long-term plans to combat flooding in their neighborhood; and what are the plans to implement the town meeting-approved drainage study.

The Hawthorne Brook Neighborhood Group wants an update on plans to dredge the retention pond at the Tedesco Country Club.

In addition, they want to tell selectmen about recent flooding during "fast and furious" rains.

The chairman of the Board of Selectmen, Rich Malagrifa, said the board will listen to what representatives of the groups have to say.

The town plans to include a town-wide drainage study among its capital expenditures in next year's budget.

The study will provide direction on resolving flooding problems in town, he said.

In the meantime, the town is cleaning drainage traps in low-lying areas, he said.

The board is also slated to talk about a pilot parking meter program for a portion of Humphrey Street.

Some people want the meters, some want the meters with exemptions for local residents and some people do not want the meters at all, he said.

The board meets at 7:15 p.m. at Town Hall.
