1) Newsbit of the Day: Gates will remain unlocked on three streets that border Phillips Park — Muriel, Lodge and Charlotte — in the Bates Road neighborhood. Selectmen last week talked about locking the gates over the first two weekends of the season but took no action on the idea.

2) Swampscott Scholars: Sara Louise Sharp was named to the Dean's List at Clemson University for the fall 2011 semester. Sara is majoring in biological sciences. To be named to the Dean's List, a student achieved a grade-point average between 3.50 and 3.99 on a 4.0 scale.

3) Swampscott Athletics: Swampscott High spring athletic teams had their first official practices of the spring season on Monday.

4) Weather Watch:  Areas of fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 68, says the National Weather Service.
