Updated: Third Person Pulls Papers For School Committee Race

The last day to pull nomination papers for town and school elected offices is March 8; the papers must be returned by 5 p.m. on March 13..

 

Town Clerk Susan Duplin reports that her office will remain open on Tuesday, Feb. 19, until 8 pm exclusively for pulling or handing in nomination papers. 

As it stood on Feb 12, there was only one office, School Committee, that appeared headed toward a competitive race.

Three candidates have pulled nomination papers for the two open seats on the committee.

Incumbents Larry Beaupre and Jaren Landen have pulled papers. Amy O'Connor has also pulled nomination papers.

The extra hours are for those who cannot make it to Town Hall during regular business hours.

Nomination papers must be obtained in person at the Town Clerk’s Office by the candidate or a designee of the candidate, the clerk said.

A note or 'Declaration of Intent' with the candidate’s original signature is required to obtain nomination papers. You will find a Declaration of Intent form on the Elections Department section of the Town’s website www.town.swampscott.ma.us

Update on who has pulled papers:

SCHOOL COMMITTEE/3 Year Term—Jaren Landen & Laurier Beaupre are up for Re-Election: They BOTH took out papers for Re-Election….Amy L. O’Connor has also taken out papers.

MODERATOR/1 Year Term--Joe Markarian is up for Re-Election & has taken out papers.

BOARD OF SELECTMEN/3 Year Term—Richard Malagrifa & David Van Dam are up for Re-Election: Both publicly announced they will not be running another Term…..Matt Strauss has taken out papers for Board of Selectmen.

BOARD OF ASSESSORS/3 Year Term-Neil Sheehan is up for Re-Election….No one has taken out papers

TRUSTEE OF THE PUBLIC LIBRARY/3 Year Term—Marianne McDermott is up for Re-Election & has taken out papers.

BOARD OF HEALTH/3 Year Term—Lawrence S. Block is up for Re-Election & has taken out papers.

PLANNING BOARD/5 Year Term—Sylvia B. Belkin is up for Re-Election. Joseph R. Young has taken out papers.

HOUSING AUTHORITY/5 Year Term—Richard M. Callahan is up for Re-Election & has taken out papers.

CONSTABLE/3 Year Term—ALL 3:  Robert Donnelly, Paul Minsky & Stephen B. Simmons are up for Re-Election….Paul Minsky & Stephen Simmons took out papers, Robert Donnelly has moved out of town (VACANCY).

 

TOWN MEETING MEMBERS:  AT LEAST 18 SEATS PER PRECINCT ARE UP FOR RE-ELECTION; THERE ARE ADDITIONAL VACANCIES IN SOME PRECINCTS.

 

Deadlines: 

Last day to OBTAIN Nomination papers for all Town offices on the ballot: 3/8/13 by 5PM.

Last day to SUBMIT Nomination papers for all Town Offices on the ballot: 3/12/13 by 5PM.

TOWN MEETING MEMBERS “NOTICES OF RE-ELECTION”:  3/12/13 BY 5PM.

Last day to WITHDRAW in writing:  3/28/13 BY 5PM

Last day to REGISTER TO VOTE & CHANGE YOUR PARTY AFFILIATION FOR THE APRIL 30, 2013 TOWN & SPECIAL STATE PRIMARY ELECTIONS:  4/10/13 by 8PM.

ANNUAL TOWN MEETING:  May 6, 2013

FOR ANY AND ALL 2013 ELECTIONS A NEW ABSENTEE BALLOT APPLICATION MUST BE FILED WITH THE TOWN CLERK’S OFFICE BEFORE OBTAINING A BALLOT
