Candidate Deadlines This Week and Next

Friday is the last day to pick-up nomination papers for town offices. Some offices including selectmen still need a candidate.

Several deadlines for town elections are approaching.

The last day to pick up nomination papers, at the Town Clerk's Office, is Friday, March 4, by 5 p.m., said Town Clerk Sue Duplin.


The last day to turn in the nomination papers, with signatures, is Tuesday, March 8, by 5 p.m., she said.

The last day to object or withdraw in writing is Wednesday, March 24, she said. 

The election is April 26.

As of Monday afternoon, the Board of Selectmen had one candidate, incumbent Jill Sullivan, for its two three-year openings.

Selectman Robert Mazow has stated that he will not seek reelection.

The two incumbents on the Schol Committee have not pulled papers, and neither of them intend to do so.

Maureen Thomsen stated at a meeting that she will not seek reelection. Committee member Glenn Paster said in a telephone interview Tuesday that he will not seek reelection.

Two candidates have pulled papers for the two three-year open seats on the committee. They are David Matela and Stephanie Greenfield. Matela has filed his nomination papers.

Incumbents for other offices who have pulled papers are Joe Markarian for moderator, Jonathan Penyack for trustee of public library, William Sullivan III for the board of assessors, Martha Dansdill for the board of health, and Albert DiLisio for the housing authority.

New candidate Jorge Briones has pulled papers for the three-year opening on the planning board.
