Bus Stop Minute 1

The first in a series of bus stop minutes, explaining who the riders are and what their thoughts are about possible MBTA reductions in bus service.

 

Alysha Monfette has her two children, Lily, 8, and Lucas, 4, in tow under a bright sun at the corner of New Ocean and Burrill, the.

The Swampscott mom rides the bus daily to the Lynn YMCA where she works and Lucas attends preschool. She knows cuts in bus service may be coming and it worries her.

It's 3 pm Thursday and in another minute the bus will brake to the curb with a deep exhale and she and the children will climb aboard.

She readies her children and their fares. She has her daughter's coat folded under an arm and pulls down her son's funky hat spiked with a garden of dinosaur horns.

"It would be a huge thing for us — especially in the winter when it is cold," she says.

Here comes the bus, she announces.

"I've been following it and I think there are other solutions," she says before the door opens and they climb the steps.
