Board of Library Trustees Vacancy

Work with the community to identify need and help to improve library services.

 

The Town of Swampscott seeks individuals who are interested in filling an existing vacancy as a member of the Board of Library Trustees. This vacancy will be appointed jointly by the Board of Selectmen and the Library Trustees. 

The appointee will serve until the 2014 Town Election at which time the position will be placed on the ballot for a three (3) year elected term.  Individuals wishing to seek election to the position are encouraged to contact the Town Clerk for information.

Library trustees are responsible for working with other board members to oversee the library, employ a qualified library director, establish policy and plans, determine the final budget and conduct public relations.

The trustees set service-oriented library policies which uphold the principles of equal and free access to materials. They work to secure an appropriate funding level for the facility, technology, hours of operation, collection and staff.

Interested individuals should submit a letter of interest to the Board of Selectmen’s office, 22 Monument Avenue, Swampscott, MA 01907 or via e-mail at mgilhooley@town.swampscott.ma.us no later than May 15, 2013.
