As of late in the afternoon at least three of the town's six precincts were seeing a steady stream of voters, putting the precincts on a pace with last year's turnout.

About 18 percent of Swampscott's registered voters cast ballots in the town election in 2011.

At 3:30 pm, at, home to Precincts 3 and 4, Kay Grasso consulted her election book and said 246 votes were cast in her precinct.

She estimated that when all was said and done the turnout would be at or beyond the turnout from 2010, when 388 votes were cast, and from 2011, when 395 votes were cast.

Today at the at 5 pm at Precincts 1 and 2 wardens Sherman Freedman and Kathie Kieser said the turnout was on a par with the turnout a year ago.

Sherman estimated his precinct would see about 10 more votes than last year.

He made that estimate based on a comparison of activity in the first three hours in 2011 and 2012.
