5 Things to Know: Children March for MLK

Children at Shirat Hayam Preschool in Swampscott marched for peace in honor of Martin Luther King's birthday.

Here are five things to know Jan. 22, 2013 in Swampscott:

1) Town and School Meeting Watch: The Board of Selectmen meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.

2) Newsbit of the Day: Children, ages 3 months - 5 years old, at Shirat Hayam Preschool in Swampscott, participated in a peace march througout the whole school, in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday.  Lots of school-made banners with important messages from the children were proudly displayed all along the "parade route."

3) Swampscott Scholars: Swampscott High Class of 2012 graduate Ethan Forman received the Swampscott High School Student Council Scholarship.  

4) Weather Watch: Snow showers likely, mainly before 8 a.m. Patchy fog before 7 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 25. Northwest wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.

5) Big Blue Watch: The Swampscott High boys and girls track teams host Winthrop on Thursday at 4 in the Swampscott High field house.
