5 Things Including: P&S Agreement Being Negotiated on Train Depot

The depot's sale would need Town Meeting approval.

1) Town and School Watch:

Gina Cobbett, a teacher from the Swampscott School District, has been chosen to train as a lead mentor to new teachers, joining a select group of more than 150 of the state's top teachers in the Project SUCCESS program.

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's Center for University, School, and Community Partnerships (CUSP) is training some of the state's top teachers to mentor their colleagues in "high-need" areas like special education, English as a Second Language, science and math.

2) Newsbit of the Day:

The town is working with the MBTA on a purchase and sales agreement for the depot building and four parking spaces in front of it at the Swampscott Train Station, Town Administrator Tom Younger reported on Wednesday. Since negotiations are ongoing the administrator did not disclose the proposed purchase price. The proposed sale would need Town Meeting approvals, the town administrator said. The town is looking to extend a longterm lease, for 10 years, on the property.

3) Swampscott Scholars:

Donald Legere of Swampscott, a senior in the Merrimack College School of Science and Engineering, was named to the Fall 2012 Deans' List. To make the list, a student must achieve a 3.25 grade point average or higher, based on a 4.0 grading system.

4) Weather Watch:
