Woman Loses Check for 33K

The following is an excerpt from the Swampscott Police log:

Monday, Oct. 24

  • One person was arrested after police found a person drinking behind the
  • At 7:02 p.m. police believe they received a prank phone call about someone having a heart attack. Police and medical aid searched the area and local addresses, for the person but found no one. 
  • At 8 p.m. a resident told police her 12-year-old daughter was approached by a suspicious older male earlier in the day.

  • A pedestrian sustained an injury to the leg after being struck by a car on Paradise Road at 6:37 a.m.
  • At 2:49 p.m. police responded to a minor motor vehicle accident on Capen Road.
  • At 4:25 p.m. police responded to a call about two people smoking marijuana. Two citations were issued. 

Wednesday, Oct. 26

  • Larceny of a bike was reported on Beach Avenue at 2:56 p.m.
  • At 11:35 p.m. police investigated an attempted break in on Essex Street.

  • Police assisted Nahant Police with a missing juvenile.

Friday, Oct. 28

  • A small white dog without tags was found on Blodgett Ave., at 1:29 p.m.
  • At 5:18 p.m. a bike was reported stolen from a porch on Paradise Road.
  • At 8:47 p.m. a woman told police she lost a check made out for $33,000 in a parking lot.

Saturday, Oct. 29

  • Police investigated a shoplifting report on Paradise Road at 10 a.m.
  • A juvenile was issued a no trespass order after shoplifting from a store on Paradise Road at 12:14 p.m.
  • Two 15-year-olds were issued no trespass orders after shoplifting from a store on Paradise Road at 12:39 p.m.
  • The fire department investigated a smoke lamp on Crossman Ave. at 6 p.m.
  • A tree limb came down on Humphrey Street at 11:16 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 30

  • A tree limb came down on Aspen Road at 1:29 a.m.
  • A resident of Phillips Avenue called police about hearing a chainsaw at 1:44 a.m. Police found another resident removing a tree that had fallen.
  • A wire came down on Paradise Road at 2:48 a.m.
  • The Fire Department responded to a sparking wire on Claremont Terrace at 5:05 a.m.
  • Tree limbs were reported down on Parson Drive and Sampson Avenue at 5:45 a.m.
  • A party was transported to Salem Hospital with injuries after a car accident on the Mall Access Road at 5:48 p.m.

Monday, Oct. 31

  • An elderly couple reported having no heat at 12:21 p.m. Police made arrangements with elderly services.

The following people were arrested:

  • Artur Avanesov, 19, 8 Alvin Road, was arrested and charged with possession of liquor while under 21.
  • David E. Slate III, 30, 8 Didio Road, was arrested and charged with domestic assault and battery.
  • Tony Sanchez, 58, 10 First St., Salem was arrested and charged with shoplifting to conceal merchandise and intimidation of a witness. 
  • Vemaria Pena, 35, 68 Essex St., Lynn, was arrested and charged with shoplifting.
  • Charles M. O'Donnell, 58, 18 Buchanan Road, Salem, was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, negligent driving and failure to stop or yield. 
  • David Ring, 47, 153 I St., Boston, was charged with domestic assault and battery.
  • Anthony J. Costa Jr., 43, 3 Montrose St., Sommerville, was charged with shoplifting.
  • Laurie Jean McCullock, 35, 7 Riverview St., Beverly, was charged with three counts of breaking and entering into a motor vehicle to commit a felony, carrying a dangerous weapon, larceny under $250 by false pretense and possession of class B drugs.
  • James Francis McLaughlin, 21, 33 Rosedale Ave., Everett, was charged with three counts of breaking and entering to a motor vehicle for felony and larceny under $250 by false pretense. 
  • John Furey, 45, 246 Humphrey St., was charged with breaking and entering in the night for felony.
