Window Smashed and Home Ransacked — Police Charge Suspect

Swampscott Police Department investigated a house break-in on Crescent Street on June 25. The resident had left early in the morning and returned home later in the day to find his house had been broken into, said Swampscott police Det. Tim Cassidy. 

The victim observed that the side door window had been smashed and his home ransacked, police said. The victim also reported that his laptop computer was missing along with some personal items including his passport. 

Later in the day, Lynn Police arrested Donald Wiswall, 49, of 34 Broad St. Apt 38 of Lynn, on an unrelated incident and during the arrest Lynn officers observed  a passport  and paperwork that belonged to a party out of Swampscott, police said.

Those Lynn officers called the Swampscott victim not knowing that his house had been broken into earlier in the day and that victim then contacted the Swampscott Police Department. 

On June 26, Swampscott police Det. Ted Delano applied for a search warrant for Donald Wiswall’s Lynn apartment and during the search located other items taken in the Swampscott house break.

Also located was the victim’s computer and a camera. Wiswall will be charged additionally with several counts of receiving stolen property over $250 and stolen property under $250, police said. Additional charges may follow. 

Swampscott Officers were assisted by Lynn Police detectives and  Lynn officers during the search. Donald Wiswall was held on bail at his arraignment June 26 in Lynn District Court.
