The drivers of both vehicles were fitted with cervical collars and placed on backboards and into ambulances.

The child was placed in a Kendrick Extrication Device, a brace that secures the upper body and head, and a cervical collar and placed in an ambulance.

Both vehicles received major front-end damage and were towed from the scene.

Workers tossed absorbent material over a large swath of road where automobile fluids had leaked after the collision. The workers then gathered the material and hauled it off.

Police officers blocked the area to traffic during the cleanup and towing.

The child was a passenger in the cab, riding with his father, also a passenger.

Captain Thompson said the injured people appeared to be fortunate that they were not more seriously hurt.

The police report was still being processed late yesterday.
