Two Arrests and Son Reportedly Beating Mother

The following is an excerpt from the Swampscott Police logs. Where charges are mentioned it does not indicate a conviction.

Friday, May 31

  • At 2:55 p.m., a tenant and landlord dispute was reported on Roy Street.
  • At 3:24 p.m., police charged Jared Dignan, 17, of 51 Pond St., Nahant with shoplifting after police received a report of shoplifting at Marshalls department store at 1005 Paradise Road.
  • At 3:33 p.m., an elderly woman on Lewis Road reported that her son was going to kill her. She said he was beating her with a stick, and the telephone line went dead. Police responded and followed with a report on the matter. (There was no indication of an arrest, nor of anyone being transported to the hospital.)
  • At 8:15 p.m., a caller reported a hit and run accident at Greenwood Avenue.

Saturday, June 1

  • At 12:35 p.m., police received a call from Burke Drive. Three teens were on the property and said they were trying to get into the pool.
  • At 2:43 p.m., the fire department was dispatched to Maple Avenue to help a motorist who locked his keys in a running car.
  • At 5:48 p.m., a minor motor vehicle accident was reported at Humphrey Street and Orchard Road.
  • At 7:48 p.m., a call came in about someone being threatened. Police charged Sean McCarriston, 30, of 154 Burrill St., Swampscott with assault with a dangerous weapon, threatening to commit a crime and disorderly conduct.

Sunday, June 2

  • At 8:05 a.m., police received a report of smoke at the Mass Electric Substation on Paradise Road. 
  • At 9:46 p.m., police received a report that a motor vehicle was stuck on the beach.

Monday, June 3

  • At 3:01 p.m., a caller reported an abandoned vehicle on Grant Road. It was towed.
  • At 3:20 p.m., a motor vehicle accident was reported at Humphrey Street and Pleasant Street. Minor injuries were reported.
  • At 5:40 p.m., a Puritan Avenue caller reported a possible case of identity theft over the Internet.
  • At 7:12 p.m., police received a report from a Paradise Road address about an attempted phone scam involving the lottery. 
  • At 8:59 p.m., police received a request for an emergency restraining order from a Sherwood Road resident.
  • At 10:32 p.m., next of kin was notified about a drowing victim taken to the Salem Hospital emergency room.
