National Grid Substation Reports Stolen Copper

The following is an excerpt from the Swampscott Police Department's log: 


Saturday, Feb. 1

  • At 1:20 a.m., police conducted a building check on Atlantic Avenue.
  • At 2:37 a.m., police conducted a building check on Monument Avenue.
  • At 7:19 a.m., police stopped a motor vehicle near the intersection of Humphrey Street and Kensington Lane.
  • At 8:34 a.m., a resident entered the police station to report that their vehicle had been vandalized overnight.
  • At 9:45 a.m., police received two calls reporting either a fox or coyote was running down the road toward Clarke School. The first call reportedly came from Norfolk Avenue and the other from the depot area. The depot later called and said it was "spinning in circles and possibly sick."
  • At 10:02 a.m., a Phillips Beach Avenue woman called police to report identity theft and larceny.
  • At 12:48 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle near the intersection of Capen Road and Essex Street.
  • At 4:11 p.m., police responded to a report of an injured bird on Puritan Road.
  • At 5:25 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle near the intersection of Cedar Hill Terrace and Humphrey Street.
  • At 6:23 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle on Essex Street.
  • At 6:39 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle on Essex Street.
  • At 6:58 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle on Humphrey Street.
  • At 9:56 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle on Humphrey Street.

Sunday, Feb. 2

  • At 5:50 a.m., a Paradise Road resident called police to report that they were dealing with "excruciating back pain." The Lynn Fire Department was notified.
  • At 10:42 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident in the parking lot of the Marshall's on Paradise Road.
  • At 11:23 a.m., police conducted a well-being check on Paradise Road.
  • At 12:29 p.m., the animal control officer was called to retrieve a stray cat on Suffolk Avenue.
  • At 2:49 p.m., a resident called police to report that their car was stuck in a car wash on Paradise Road.
  • At 3:22 p.m., a Paradise Road resident was taken by ambulance to Salem Hospital after feeling dizzy and getting a nose bleed.
  • At 5:53 p.m., police and fire units responded to a report of a carbon monoxide alarm on Beach Bluff Avenue. The scene was cleared by local firefighters.
  • At 10:49 p.m., an Atlantic Avenue resident called police to report smelling a strong odor of natural gas. Local firefighters checked the scene and didn't find anything.
  • At 10:55 p.m., a Banks Road resident was transported by ambulance to Salem Hospital.

Monday, Feb. 3:

  • At 12:02 a.m., the manager at the CVS Pharmacy on Paradise Road called police to report a shoplifting incident.
  • At 8:36 a.m., a Bertram House resident called police to report money missing from their room.
  • At 9:27 a.m., police responded to a report of a dog struck by a motor vehicle near the intersection of Salem Street and Sunbeam Lane.
  • At 9:58 a.m., a National Grid representative called police to report the theft of copper from the substation on Danvers Road.
  • At 12:29 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Paradise Road.
  • At 2:00 p.m., police responded to a report of a vehicle damaged by a sink hole on Humphrey Street.
  • At 5:24 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle on Essex Street.
