UPDATED: Swampscott Men Arrested for B&E

Danvers police have arrested two Swampscott men for allegedly breaking and entering a Salem apartment.

Danvers police arrested two Swampscott men on Friday on Route 1 for allegedly breaking into a Boston Street apartment in Salem earlier in the day.

David Mangini, 22, of 20 Reid Terrace, and Shane Coffey, 19, of 9 Boulder Way, Swampscott, were both arrested near Chili’s.

At 3:11 p.m. Friday,  said they received a call about a burglary in progress at 26 Boston St.

When police arrived, officials said witnesses saw a person carrying a sledge hammer.

The witnesses said the suspect smashed open an apartment door, ran down the stairs and got into a pickup truck. The witnesses told police there was a second individual in the vehicle.

Witnesses were able to obtain a licenses plate number and SPD issued a Be on the Lookout alert to surrounding communities.

A Danvers K-9 officer, Justin Ellenton, spotted the vehicle traveling the opposite direction on the highway.

He pulled over the suspects’ truck at 3:27 p.m., just after Salem police had issued the alert.

Each suspect was charged with a felony for breaking and entering in the daytime.

Det. Tim Cassidy said the men are not suspects in any Swampscott breaking and entering incidents, at this time.
