Swampscott Man Sentenced to Prison on Drug and Gun Convictions

The Swampscott man started his three-year prison sentence this week.

A 22-year-old Swampscott man was sentenced to three years in state prison Thursday on drug and firearm charges.
Michael McMahon, 7 Hillcrest Circle, pleaded guilty on May 20, to two counts of drug possession (Ecstacy) with intent to distribute and one count of possession of a firearm without an FID card, said Carrie Kimball-Monahan of Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett's office.
The investigation began with Swampscott detectives, the spokeswoman said.
A report in the Salem News said McMahon, a former University of New Hampshire student, was charged in 2010 after an investigation uncovered more than 200 Ecstasy pills and more than half a pound of the drug in powder form, as well as a gun, in an apartment McMahon was paying the rent for in Danvers.

The article also states that McMahon admitted to dealing the drug Ecstasy to UNH classmates, and that state police and the Drug Enforcement Administration had obtained evidence that McMahon and Dean Dennis, of Swampscott, had been involved in securing five kilograms of the powder form of the drug from Canada.
