Swampscott Man Arrested in Connection with TD Bank Robbery

Shortly after the robbery was reported, the man was apprehended in the woods, Salem Police said.

Police said a Swampscott man was arrested after he allegedly tried to the on Loring Avenue at 11:49 a.m. Sunday.

William C. Dumais, 58, of 18 Roy St. in Swampscott was arrested and charged with unarmed robbery after police caught him shortly after in the woods nearby.

Police initially responded to TD Bank on a report of a holdup. The suspect was described as a male between 50 and 60 years of age with a red and black shirt and tan pants.

Officers were told he "only had one tooth in his mouth."

A note was passed to the teller, but no weapon was shown, police said. The man made off with an unknown amount of cash before he fled the bank through the parking lot and ran up Loring Hills Avenue.

Police said a witness told officers the witness fled into the woods. Police then conducted a search and appended Dumais.

When police brought him back to the bank, they said the teller was able to identify the man.
