Swampscott Man Arrested for B&E After Cab Getaway Foiled

Police took one of the suspects into custody.

One breaking and entering suspect was caught and another one remains at large after they bolted from a cab and fled on foot early Sunday.

It was 1 a.m. Sunday when a cab driver saw his fares haul a flat screen television from under a bush and into the cab at Puritan Road and Beverly Road, said Swampscott police Det. Tim Cassidy.

They loaded in other items as well. The driver called Swampscott police, reporting the suspicious behavior, police said.

Police soon intercepted the cab at Humphrey Street near Pleasant, flipping the switch to the cruiser's blue lights for a traffic stop, police said.

The cab slowed. The fares bailed out and fled towards Cardillo Terrace, police said.

Nahant and Marblehead Police and a K9 Turbo and Officer Salvo from Salem Police joined the search.

Assisted by Turbo, police found one suspect, Frank Ferdinand, 29, of 1 Salem St., Swampscott hiding under a porch on Kensington Lane, police said.

The second suspect has yet to be located, police said.

Officers recovered the flat screen television, a Magellan GPS, a Dewalt drill, several bottles of prescription medication which was prescribed to another party out of Marblehead, and several other items, police said.

"It was later discovered that the items were taken out of another house break on Puritan Road," Det. Cassidy said. "All the items recovered were identified by the victims."

Ferdinand is charged with seven counts of receiving stolen property over $250, possession of a Class E substance and disorderly conduct.

Swampscott police officers on the scene were Officer Brian Wilson, Officer Todd Pierce, Sgt Jay Locke, and Officer Sal Caruso.
