Police Investigating Body Found at Sea

Swampscott police and state police are investigating. Police will identify the victim after the next of kin is notified.

 

Today, at 4:27 p.m., troopers assigned to the State Police Marine Unit, U.S. Coast Guard and the State Police Detective Unit for Essex County responded to a report of a body located in the ocean, 4 to 5 miles east of Marblehead Harbor.

At this time the identity of the victim is unknown, according to a state police spokesman.

The victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Boston for further examination, the spokesman said.

State Police will not release the name of the victim until next of kin are notified.

The facts and circumstances remain under investigation by State Police detectives from Essex County District Attorney’s Office with the assistance of the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, State Police Marine Unit, U.S. Coast Guard, and Swampscott Police Department.  

Further questions will be referred to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
