McGovern said in a press release that the purpose of the checkpoint is to further educate motorists and strengthen public awareness about the need for both detecting drivers who are operating under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol and get them off the road.

She said the checkpoint would be conducted over varied hours, safety will be assured, vehicles will not be chosen arbitrarily and troopers will try to minimize inconvenience to motorists by giving them advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety.
