Shopping Cart in Traffic and a Threatening Grandfather

The following is an excerpt from the Swampscott Police logs. Where charges are mentioned it does not indicate a conviction.

Friday, April 5

  • At 4:16 p.m., police received a report that a customer's purse was stolen at Stop & Shop. 
  • At 6:51 p.m., police responded to a report of kids on the roof of the Machon School. An officer found kids on the side of the building. 

 Saturday, April 6

  • At 3:28 p.m., police secured the area at the new police station after they noted the fence around the area had been knocked down.
  • At 7:23 p.m., police received a report of a motorcycle speeding up and down Humphrey Street between the Fish House and Blaney Street.
  • At 10:30 p.m., police responded to a loud party on Essex Street, telling them they needed to lower the volume on the music.
  • At 11:51 p.m., police received complaints about loud music at a party on Ingalls Terrace. The residents turned off the music.

Sunday, April 7

  • At 2:43 a.m., police received a report from state police about an erratic driver operating a motor vehicle with a flat tire. 
  • At 4:24 a.m., a caller reported a loud party on the second floor at an Essex Street address. Police reported the party was shutting down.
  • At 4:42 a.m., an Essex Street resident reported receiving threatening text messages from a party in a second-floor apartment.
  • At 4:21 p.m., a person on Highland Place reported her children were being threatened by their grandfather. 
  • At 9:19 p.m., police and fire received a report that a woman was not breathing near Humphrey Street and Redington Street. The woman was found to be breathing and conscious and was transported to Salem Hospital.

Monday, April 8

  • At 12:30 p.m., a woman walking her dog near the Girl Scout Lodge on Foster Road reported that a man was yelling incoherently at her and her dog. She ran from the area.
  • At 5:15 p.m., Salem State police asked that Swampscott police check an inbound train for a possible assault suspect aboard. The train already passed Swampscott and nobody matching the description got off the train in town.

Tuesday, April 9

  • At 11 a.m., the Sheriff's Department assisted NationalGrid as it shut off gas service to a Humphrey Street house.
  • At 12:49 p.m., police received a report of a loose dog in the area of Millett and Aspen Roads.
  • At 1:15 p.m., a motor vehicle accident with possible injuries was reported at 2 Humphrey St.
  • At 1:31 p.m., a lost dog was recovered on Aspen Road. The town animal control officer was notified.
  • At 4:47 p.m., a caller reported that a heavy-set man was pushing a shopping cart and running in and out of traffic. He was last seen headed towards Walgreens.
  • At 11:18 p.m., a worker at the Swampscott Mall, 450 Paradise Road, was reportedly hit with hot water.
