A week later, Revere police arrested Michael Feudo and Eric Monahan of Winthrop after authorities found them with three sewer grates in Revere, according to the Boston Globe.

Feudo reportedly admitted involvement in the larceny of 80 sewer grates in Revere, according to the Globe account. Police were investigating whether the theft ring responsible for the Revere grating thefts also had a role in thefts in other towns including Swampscott, the news article states.

Thieves take storm drain covers and sell them for their metal value, Det. Tim Cassidy said in a Patch interview earlier this month.

“Revere, Malden, Saugus and Lynn are all reporting similar incidents,” he said.

Swampscott streets targeted on Nov. 3, were Fuller Ave, Pine Hill Road, Beverly Road, Shelton Road, Bradlee Ave, Phillips Ave and Harrison Ave.

Public Works Director Gino Cresta said at the time that it will cost the town about $10,000 to replace the 10 drain covers.

The drains are at the foot of roadside curbing. Rain and snow melt flow into them and along the town's storm-water lines.

The covers are made of cast iron and weigh about 150 pounds.
