In all cases, the residents were not at home, he said.

Sometimes. the thieves will ring the doorbell to see if anybody is home, police said.

Police encourage residents to call the department if they see any suspicious individuals in their neighborhood.

"When leaving the house, turn on some lights as well as a radio or television," Det. Delano said. "This may deter the thieves."

Also, police encourage residents to photograph jewelry and electronics they own.

The photos can help investigators locate items, if they are stolen.  Documenting serial numbers is also recommended, police said.
