For several years the Police Department has regularly emailed crime alerts, safety tips and other community messages to residents who have provided Detective Ted Delano with their email addresses.

Nixle takes this practice to another level, not only allowing us to send out e-mails, but providing us with the ability to rapidly send out text messages as well.

Reports of recent crime activity, a description of a suspect, a missing child or person with dementia, can now be sent instantly to residents who have signed up for the service.

There have been several instances in other communities where the use of Nixle has led to the capture of a dangerous suspect

Residents can sign up for this service on our web site at www.swampscottpolice.com or by going directly to the Nixle web site at www.nixle.com.

By signing up, residents will be able to stay up to date on information affecting the community including traffic alerts, weather emergencies, local crime information and safety tips.

Messages always include a priority level so you can immediately judge their urgency upon receipt.

Nixle also gives residents the flexibility to direct messages based on priority so they can receive urgent information by text message and the rest via email.
