Police Investigate Strangers Offering a Fourth Grader a Ride

Police are investigating a report about two males in a van who twice offered rides to a fourth grader on Thursday.

Police say a fourth grader who lives in Swampscott was offered rides in a white van Thursday by two males.

The child attends private school and reported the incident Friday morning, police said.

The girl reported to her school that she was stopped on Thursday in Swampscott by two males who were driving in a large white commercial van at approximately 4:30 p.m. in the area of Atlantic Avenue and Bradlee Avenue, police said.

The van's windows were tinted dark and the passenger-side window was cracked open, she said.

The fourth-grader said that they stopped and said “Hi, do you want a ride?"

She continued on her way, walking faster, she said.

The van then pulled up next to her again and said, “Hey, are you sure you don’t want a ride?" she said.

Police have no further description of the van or incident at this time.
