Police Capture Suspect After Paradise Road Foot Chase

The suspect was charged with larceny, resisting arrest and drug possession.

A noon foot chase ended in front of Dunkin' Donuts on Paradise Road Wednesday with Swampscott police capturing the fleeing Lynn man.
Robert Furtick, 53, of 19 Marianne St. was charged with larceny under $250, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and possession of crack cocaine.
He was ordered held at the Essex County House of Corrections in lieu of $1,000 cash bail at his arraignment the same day in Lynn District Court.
On Wednesday, police were alerted to a report of a man loading a suitcase with merchandise and heading to the exit at Marshalls department store on Paradise Road, the police incident report states.
Police located a man who fit the suspect's description and was sitting in the passenger seat in a car in the store parking lot. A young child was in a car seat and crying.
Police identified the passenger as Robert Furtick, the report states.
Upon questioning the man said, "I'm out of here," and ran across Paradise Road without regard for traffic or his safety and was pursued by police on foot, the report states.
Passersby stopped to observe the commotion.
Police captured Furtick in the Dunkin' Donuts parking lot by the sidewalk on the mulch area, the report stated.
Furtick told police the driver of the car he had been inside had nothing to do with the incident and did not know he was going into the store to steal, the report states.
At the station, police found in Furtick's pocket a small baggie twist with a yellowish substance that appeared to be crack cocaine.
The suspect had an outstanding warrant and is scheduled on Aug. 12, to appear in Lynn District Court on the Swampscott charges.
