New Police Station Project Forging Ahead

Plans for the town’s received approval from the Swampscott on Wednesday.

“I’m pleased the plans have been approved and that we can move ahead,” Police Chief Ron Madigan said.

Conservation review typically includes wetland, setback and drainage items.

Conservation Commission member Tom Rusk said the panel approved the plan for the Humphrey Street station project and will issue an OOC, or order of conditions, so work can begin.

“They will not need to appear before the Commission until the project is completed when they will request a certificate of compliance,” Rusk stated.

The remaining piece in the review process is for the state highway department to sign off, the police chief said.

Bids to construct the station are due Sept. 30, he said.

Station plans have already been reviewed by the town Zoning and Planning Boards.

Police Station Building Committee members said earlier that they expect a 12-month construction for substantial completion of the new station and a 60-day closeout, putting the police department into the new building by December 2012.
