Mattapan Man Charged in Serious Marblehead Crash

Others may be charged when the investigation is done.

 

A Mattapan man has been charged in connection with a crash that injured three other occupants early Friday morning on Humphrey Street in Marblehead.

On Wednesday, Marblehead police charged Michael Johnson, 19, of 371 River St., Mattapan, with the following:

  • 3-counts of Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicating alcohol causing serious bodily injury
  • Negligent Operation of a motor vehicle
  • Minor in possession of Alcohol
  • Operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license

"More individuals may be charged at the completion of the investigation," said Marblehead police Chief Robert Picariello.

The crash took place at 87 Humphrey St. Police and fire units were called to the scene at 2:23 a.m. Swampscott police assisted.

Three people were extricated, treated at the scene and transported to Salem Hospital, the log states.

The three people were: Cameron Sylvester of Marblehead; Maxwell Hill of Lynn; and Michael Johnson of Mattapan.

Police called in a K-9 unit to assist. The Marblehead police log entry for the incident states the driver may have fled.

State police were called in to assist.

At 3:30 a.m., police received a call from the vehicle's owner, saying that someone had taken his vehicle without permission, the log states.

He said he was at a friend's house and someone took his key from the counter and took the car. He said he did not know who took it, the log states.
