Man Charged with Assaulting Woman Who Was Pregnant

The following information came from the Swampscott Police Department. Where charges are listed, they do not indicate a conviction.

Monday, Aug. 12

  • At 2:12 a.m., police received a complaint about loud music at a Paradise Road apartment where four or five people were present.
  • At 10:41 a.m. one vehicle was ticketed at Blaney and Redington Streets.
  • At 2:20 p.m., police received a report of a person walking in the middle of Humphrey Street. The caller reported that the person might be under the influence of some substance.
  • At 6:36 p.m., police responded to a report of a dog locked inside a car with the windows up at Whole Foods Market.
Tuesday, Aug. 13
  • At 5:32 a.m., police received a report from a tow truck driver having a problem with a repossession on Hillside Avenue.
  • At 4:20 p.m., a motor vehicle accident was reported at Essex Street and Stetson Avenue.
  • At 8:05 p.m., a motor vehicle accident reported at Humphrey Street and Pleasant Street.
  • At 11:34 p.m., police received a report of a loud group near the wall at Eisman's Beach. The people were sent on their way.
Wednesday, Aug. 14
  • At 8:54 a.m., police received a call about school parking on Middlesex Street.
  • At 9:46 a.m., a caller reported a violation of a restraining order via phone call.
  • At 12:07 p.m., a motor vehicle was ticketed on Humphrey Street.
  • At 12:10 p.m., a motor vehicle was ticketed on Ocean Avenue.
  • At 5:04 p.m., police received a complaint about a bulldog running loose on the Town Hall lawn. Police told the owner to leash the dog.
  • At 6:15 p.m., police received a report of a black Labrador retriever running in and out of traffic on Humphrey Street by Cindy's market.
  • At 6:21 p.m., police received a report of a hit and run on Burrill Street by the library.
  • At 7:15 p.m., police received a report of a man throwing a woman to the ground at Burrill and Essex Streets. Police responded to the scene. They gave the woman a ride to her address in Salem. Police charged Gene Nelson, 33, of 116 Lafayette St., Salem with assault and battery and assault and battery on a pregnant victim.
Thursday, Aug. 15
  • At 1:16 a.m., police received a report from Commonwealth Terrace about a teen who ran from the residence. Police called Lynn police and asked them to check a residence in the city to see if the teenager was there.
  • At 7:37 a.m., police received a report of a lost gray cat on Puritan Road. The town animal control officer was notified.
  • At 8:22 a.m., police notified the Department of Works about graffiti on the wall at Eisman's Beach.
