Fight and Flight on Humphrey

The Boston man was arraigned after a domestic incident on Humphrey Street last week.

Police charged a Boston man with domestic assault and battery and unarmed robbery last week after he allegedly struck his girlfriend and fled with her pocketbook.

Jamile Smith, 37, of 740 Mass Ave., was arraigned April 16, in Lynn District Court in connection with the charges.

Police responded to a report of a fight in the street in the vicinity of 565 Humphrey St. shortly before 7:30 p.m. on April 14, according to the police report.

At the scene the alleged victim told police her boyfriend had hit her in the ear and took off with her pocketbook, the report states.

She said she was concerned because her pocketbook had her medication in it.

Police later asked a man walking on Humphrey Street to stop and he ran away.

Police apprehended the man, identified as Jamile Smith, the report states.

The man admitted to getting into a fight but said he hit the woman once in the head to stop her from repeatedly assaulting him.

He said he had her purse because he always carried it for her in a tote bag.

Information was unavailable on the next court date in the case.
