Man Arrested For OUI and Driving to Endanger

The man was stopped for a motor vehicle violation, running a red light, on Essex Street.

 

A 57-year-old Salem man faces a charge of OUI after he allegedly ran a red light and drove to endanger shortly before 10 p.m. on May 21.

A Swampscott police officer saw Son Trinh, of 96 Linden St., Salem, at the intersection of Essex Street and Danvers/Eastman Avenue, according to the court report.

Trinh allegedly swerved to miss a parked motor vehicle after the officer turned on her emergency lights.

The driver stopped by Hawthorne's Crossing, and, while speaking to the officer, gave off a smell of alcohol.

The officer asked permission to conduct a field sobriety test.

The driver appeared unsteady and unable to perform the field tests, which included walking heel-to-toe, the officer stated in the report.

He also took a portable breath test and recorded a .186, according to the court record.

In Massachusetts, 0.08 is the legal limit. 

His case will be scheduled for a hearing in Lynn District Court.
