Lynn Woman Arrested for Shoplifting

A Lynn woman was recently arrested for allegedly attempting to shoplift more than $400 in merchandise from a local clothing store.

A Lynn woman is scheduled for a pretrial hearing Dec. 9, after she was allegedly caught trying to shoplift hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise from the Swampscott .

Joan Anderson, 66, of 12 Chauncey Ct., Lynn, pleaded innocent in Lynn District Court to a charge of larceny over $250 and was released on her own public recognizance.

Police officers responded to the Paradise Road clothing store on Oct. 20, after it was reported that a woman had been caught attempting to shoplift more than $400 worth of merchandise, according to court documents.

An employee at the store reportedly told responding officers that Anderson had returned a couple of items at the service desk before filling a plastic Marshalls bag with clothing. When she was confronted about the alleged theft, Anderson reportedly said "Every time I get caught, they just make me pay for the items."

Anderson is reportedly known at other stores in the area because "she has been observed shoplifting in the past," according to court documents.

Anderson was reportedly found to have filled her bag with $429.94 worth of clothing, including jackets, jeans, shorts and winter clothing items.

Anderson was ordered to stay away from the store and is scheduled to reappear in court on Dec. 9 for a pretrial hearing.
