Dicicco told police he had just returned from a hunting trip and had a gun in the trunk and knives in the car. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered an unregistered Fiocchi 12 gauge shotgun; 35 unspent shells; Chipaway deer knife; Smith and Wesson knife; SWAT folding knife; Beretta knife; Orvis knife; MTech knife; and an unknown black folding knife.

Dicicco provided the officer with a piece of paper showing that he had attempted to renew his license on Sept. 27.  Had he been able to renew his license before it expired, Dicicco would have been granted a 90-day grace period but would only able to keep the firearms in his home.

Dicicco's weapon was properly secured with a trigger lock and he reportedly told police he was unaware of the rules regarding the 90-day grace period.

The shotgun, ammo and knives were all seized by the Swampscott Police Department and logged as evidence.

Dicicco was released on his own recognizance and he is scheduled to reappear in court on Nov. 9 for a pretrial hearing.
