The accident resulted in multiple injuries.

A four-car chain-reaction accident by Marblehead High School about 5:30 on prom night led to multiple injuries.

No information was available on the extent of the injuries. The injured people were interviewed an hour later at North Shore Medical Center.

The accident took place when the driver of a blue Volvo, inbound on Humphrey Street towards the school, on his way to the prom, struck the back of a 2005 Honda Pilot, according to the police report.

The impact set off a domino effect. The Pilot struck a 2013 Volkwagen and that car struck a 2010 Honda.

The driver of the Volvo, Forrest Lacy, told police he was on his way to the prom driving at a speed of 40 miles per hour because he was running late, the report states.

“Lacy stated that he was looking down in his vehicle and attempting to fix his cuff link on his dress shirt right before he rear ended the 2005 black Honda Pilot,” the report states. “Lacy stated he noticed that he was about to rear end the Honda Pilot when he was approximately 10-15 feet away and did not have enough time to stop to prevent himself from striking the vehicle.”

The youth was cited for speeding and will be mailed a criminal summons for negligent operation of a motor vehicle, police said.

Police and fire units arriving to the scene found multiple young people lying on the grass. The original report in the police log stated five people were injured.

Numerous ambulances were called to the scene.

Police took photographs of the accident scene. No skid marks were visible in the roadway.
