FBI Crime Stats for 2010 in Swampscott

Figures show little change between 2009 and 2010, with the exception of burglaries.

Each year since 1996 the Federal Bureau of Investigation has published its annual Crime in the United States Report on its website.

The report posts information about violent crimes including murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault; and property crimes including burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson.

Figures for 2009 and 2010 in look relatively constant with the exception of burglaries, which increased considerably last year.

Det. Tim Cassidy said earlier this that the town does not see a lot change in the types of crimes committed, year in, year out.

"We're usually pretty consistent year to year with the types of crimes we see here in Swampscott," explained Swampscott Detective Sergeant Tim Cassidy. "With the economy the way it has been, I'd expect to see that theft crimes and shoplifting might be up, but otherwise most categories would be fairly constant."
