Explosion Reportedly Shakes House and Three Runaways

The following information came from the Swampscott Police Department. Where charges are listed, they do not indicate a conviction.

Thursday, July 11

  • At 7:03 a.m., an Essex Street father reported came to the police station and reported that three of his teenage daughters had run away, again.
  • At 11:44 a.m., a Stop & Shop trailer reportedly hit a pole at Burrill Street and Essex Street.
  • At 12:22 p.m., a caller reported that construction vehicles were blocking the sidewalk at Burrill Street and Rock Avenue.
  • At 1:54 p.m., police received a report that a construction trailer was wrapped up in downed wires by the field house at Phillips Park.
  • At 10:36 p.m., police received a report that a bicyclist had thrown something at a car by the Railroad Depot. The driver followed the bicyclist who rode down a dead end, ditched the bike and ran threw a yard. Police found a youth by Captains Pizza and he said he was with a male from Salem. The male from Salem was possibly hiding in the area. Police called the other youth’s grandmother and she came and picked him up.

Friday, July 12

  • At 8:42 a.m., a Bay View Drive caller said construction vehicles were parking on both sides of the road making the through road very narrow. The construction company obliged and parked all their vehicles on one side of the road.
  • At 7:33 p.m., police charged William Brewster, 22, 3 Huron St., Swampscott with assault and battery domestic, wanton destruction of property and malicious destruction of property.

  • At 1:02 a.m., a Duncan Terrace caller said an explosion shook her house. Police and fire checked the area and nothing was found.
  • At 5:48 a.m., a barking dog was reported in the area of Atlantic Avenue and Brown Road.
  • At 6:24 a.m., a Humphrey Street business owner reported seeing a suspicious man standing in front of her business holding a stick. The man looked to be out of it.
  • At 7:50 p.m., a Crossman Avenue caller reported a past breaking and entering. The caller said it happened last week.
