Drug Arrest Near Scene of Earlier Shooting

Suspects were charged with possession of about 8 ounces of marijuana.

Police charged a Lynn man with drug possession with intent to distribute after his arrest Monday night near a house where a shooting took place earlier this year, police said.

Swampscott police received a call shortly after 7:30 p.m. about a suspicious vehicle parked in front of 40 Hillside Ave., police said. 

This was in an area where a shooting had occurred earlier this year, police said.

Swampscott police Officers Matt MacDonald and Sgt. Jay Locke approached the vehicle and saw two males inside it, one in the driver's seat and one reclining in the back seat, said Swampscott police Det. Tim Cassidy. 

The officers also saw in plain view a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, police said.

Upon further investigation it was determined that the driver Michael Arias, 25, of 19 Pinkham St., Lynn, and his 15-year-old male passenger, also of Lynn, were found to be in possession of approximately 8 ounces of suspected marijuana, plastic baggies for packaging, a scale and nine smaller baggies already packaged for sale, police said. 

Both parties were arrested and brought to the Swampscott  Police Department for booking, police said. 

The juvenile was released to his parent.
