Day-time Break-in on Shepard Avenue

The resident was home when a thief smashed a window and broke into the house.

The resident of a Shepard Avenue home heard a knock at his rear door Monday shortly before 1 p.m., Swampscott police Det. Tim Cassidy said in a news release.

The resident got nervous and hid as the knocking grew louder.

He then heard the rear-door window smash and someone running through his house, police said.

The resident called police and reported the break-in.

Swampscott and Marblehead police searched the area.

A short while later, in Peabody, suspects tried to use credit cards stolen during the break-in, police said.

"Residents are reminded to call the police if they see anyone that may look suspicious entering or exiting their neighbors homes," Det. Cassidy said.
